This month, Substack is going on a virtual tour to help connect writers exploring similar topics together.
The Substack category tour will act both as a meeting place for writers to connect directly over Zoom, and as a showcase for the wide variety of writing happening on Substack within a given category. Today, we are visiting stop #7: parenting, education, and faith
Participate in today’s thread:
Think of today’s thread as a roll call of all the writers in the room. We will use the thread during our live session to get to know one another and after the session, to stay in touch.
Introduce yourself! In one sentence what do you write about on Substack?
Respond to fellow writers. During the showcase, reply to writers’ comments.
No need to include a link to your publication. When you hover over any writer’s name in the thread, you will find their writer and reader profile.
When we finish today, it’s over to you to stay connected. Subscribe to fellow writers’ publications and reply to their welcome email with a note to keep in touch.

Sarah, thanks for introducing yourself. I look forward to reading (ahem) your posts. In my career and on https://www.SpecialEducationToday.com I often discuss matters related to the teaching of reading, so it's a good fit!
Sarah! I wrote about Kate DiCamillo today, which makes me think of you. It's for my paid folks, but if you want to read it I can send you a secret link. ;)
I would love that, Asha! I love Kate DiCamillo, though, now that I think about it, I don’t think I’ve ever reviewed one of her books (must remedy that ASAP!)
Howdy! I'm a university student and soon-to-be high school teacher (this Fall!). Every week, I curate the content I consume and thoughts that I have. This post has been one of my more popular ones: https://merrillbrandon.substack.com/p/empathic-unsettlement
What strategies will most effectively encourage high school students to engage with complex themes like empathy and discomfort in their learning process?

Hello Everyone! I am excited to be sharing inspiration for teachers before they enter the classroom as well as reflection opportunities after they get home from a day of teaching...or whatever took their time and attention during the school day.
Hi Terry! Thank you! Currently my newsletter is more geared towards discussing duality and the coexistence of life joys and challenges. My book which is going to likely be published this summer is for teachers...not that my newsletter can't also be for teachers but it isn't currently teacher specific.
I subscribed and I'm listening now. Wow, so, so beautiful, Lail. Please keep creating music like this. <3 There are not enough songs about motherhood and parenting.
Hey, folks! I presented my newsletter in the Parenting/Education/Faith session today. I write Let Your Life Speak, about rediscovering the lost art of integrity. I said today, and I want to say here that though I'm listed under the Faith category, my primary focus is on taking the underlying teachings of my own faith community and translating them out to a much wider audience, many of whom are part of the increasing percentage of Americans who aren’t religiously or spiritually affiliated at all and don’t want to be. Yet all my readers still deeply desire a place to have conversations about community and morality that are grounded in a sense of connection and obligation between and amongst all people.
So, I write about relationship and work and politics and pleasure and parenting and personal development– all within the framework of integrity. I define integrity as the daily practice through which we seek to integrate the whole of ourselves so that our beliefs and our actions, both in public and in private, are in alignment. If that sounds like a conversation you'd be interested in I hope you'll join me/us!

Greetings all! After a 46 year career of teaching, I wrote a book about my experiences and what I learned. Rescue the Teacher, Save the Child! (Amazon/B&N) is designed with four points of view in mind : students, parents, teachers, and administrators. My Substack blogs and podcasts address the issues facing American education today. There are solutions IF we initiate national problem-solving commitment for our teachers and especially our students. Please subscribe and share the link with parents, teachers, and taxpayers!
Hello! I'm Katy from Katyslifestory. I write about faith, community, and sometimes a little parenting perspective comes through, too. I've had to take a little break from writing, but I will be writing more by the end of this month!
I was pleased to hear from many other writers this afternoon (may have been morning for someone in HA?), and I look forward to following up with folks.
I write "Special Education Today." That's a popular title on the Intertubes these days, but it's one I began using in the early 1980s. I report about matters related to various disabilities (dyslexia, autism, etc.) and what educators can do to provide appropriate services to those children (and their parents).

Hi Sarah, so lovely to meet you. Ear defenders are ear muffs. Like noise cancelling headphones. But they don't produce sound. Just block it.
Lovely to meet you too, Sarah! And you might have just changed my life with ear defenders…
sounds rad, thanks for sharing

Not having a category is very reasonable and great
