This month, Substack is going on a virtual tour to help connect writers exploring similar topics together.
The Substack category tour will act both as a meeting place for writers to connect directly over Zoom, and as a showcase for the wide variety of writing happening on Substack within a given category. Today, we are visiting stop #2: culture, music, and travel
Participate in today’s thread:
Think of today’s thread as a roll call of all the writers in the room. We will use the thread during our live session to get to know one another and after the session, to stay in touch.
Introduce yourself! In one sentence what do you write about on Substack?
Respond to fellow writers. During the showcase, reply to writers’ comments.
No need to include a link to your publication. When you hover over any writer’s name in the thread, you will find their writer and reader profile.
When we finish today, it’s over to you to stay connected. Subscribe to fellow writers’ publications and reply to their welcome email with a note to keep in touch.
It doesn't actually exist yet - maybe I should post it one Sunday soon! - but plenty other songs out there in all the usual places - plus some newer tunes right here on Substack - and a new album later this year !
Well, hop on over, Nikhil! You'll see the how, why, and the who! You're always welcome behind the rope line FRONT ROW & BACKSTAGE! (But, you already knew that)!
Hello all! I write "What's Curation?", a daily music recommendation newsletter to help you escape the curation algorithm and discover new gems. Language and genre no bar!
Hi guys, I write Out of Office, where I publish thought pieces and short essays on quitting meaningless work to pursue a different lifestyle or just redress the work-life balance. I am based in Australia and it's great to be here with everyone. Link is https://ryanbutta.substack.com/
I am completely useless at that side of things and it looked the simplest. I currently do my recording with a Zoom H1N and then use Wavepad program to do some very basic editing. It shows but for now it is ok for now as I am not using audio of actual interviews, just reading my posts.
Hi, I'm Sean! Based in NYC, I'm a former newspaper reporter, current freelancer who writes Piffany (as in Epiphany). My one-liner: "Questioning popular culture. 💥💥💥 Analysis, Essays, Interviews."
Good Morning! I'm Marla a flight attendant. I write a weekly travel newsletter that includes travel guides, reviews, recipes, wellness, and tips for what to do on that long layover.

Hey guys! Happy Friday from Singapore guys! I run two pubs, but I'm here for my music one today :) I cover my musical journey & weekly takeaways on being a composer, teacher and student of music!
Morning from New York! I'm Alexander, I write Rodeo Break, a pop culture newsletter that takes silly things very seriously. So nice to meet you all! rodeobreak.substack.com
AHB’s Goodies is a mixtape delivery service. About once a month, I share curated playlists (Spotify/Apple/YouTube) and the stories behind them. My cultural journalism has been published in places like LA Weekly, the New York Times and the New Yorker, but my primary career is running Brassland, the label I founded with musicians Bryce and Aaron Dessner (known for their work with The National, Taylor Swift, etc). Substack is my way of staying inspired by music and connected to my creative community.
To give something back, here's my 2000 track, 200 hours & counting ambient playlist. It's not available on the open internet and not-very-curated, but serves as my go-to when I'm looking for new instrumental music to wallpaper my life.
你好!I write about Chinese philosophy and mindset, speak fluent Mandarin (teach it too!) and lived in China for over 20 years. Zooming in from snowy Fort Collins, CO
Hi y'all! I'm Roya, I write Consumed which is a newsletter about things I'm consuming (food, music, news, art) as well as things that are consuming me (90s album compliations, memes, etc.). Every Friday I post the Friday Five, a weekly roundup of content meant to inspire joy and give comfort!
Hello, everybody! I'm a science journalist and book blogger and my Substack(s) are dedicated to longform interviews with (nonfiction) book authors. I started a few months ago with the Romanian language one (https://bibliotecaexploratorilor.substack.com/) and now I'm crossing over to English with the international version (https://scienceborglibrarian.substack.com/)
My pleasure! I look forward to perusing your very well-presented "magazine"! I, uh, lifted your "welcome e-mail" info bullets about readers de-railing posts from spam, etc! Thank you! It was so concisely presented, and covered all the formats I knew nothing about!!
Hi, I'm Aitanni :) I write Virgos don't cry about whatever I think, feel, see, listen, etc. So you'll find lists of how I'm entertaining myself every week and monthly playlists that represent my mood!

Lovely to meet you all! I came in late so didn't feel confident to share my Substack, also cause I also don't feel I fit in a category haha but to summarise: I write both in English and Spanish in an self healing way which uses the form of self growth and inevitably activism (woman and animal rights mostly) and (western) culture is also part of it (could it not?), but it's also a white canvas creativity and the expression of all things that feel wrong to say in real life... Honesty is the only sure thing :)
Katie I was hoping I could write down or check all the participants from today and subscribe to some new newsletter, but the only way would be if the person wrote a line in here, right?
Thanks community, this is inspiring and encouraging <3
